Class Projects

Community Dioramas
Students created a project that took the place of the Chapter 2 Social Studies test. It consisted of three parts: a diorama of a chosen community (urban, suburban, or rural), a written component, and an oral presentation. The projects looked fantastic, and students were very excited to share what they learned with the class. Each student did a wonderful job of presenting their project by projecting their voice and answering the questions of an audience.....a skill that adults often struggle with! It was a positive experience for everyone!

The Budget Project
Students are currently learning how to generate income, make financial decisions, and create budgets. On Friday, March 2, students began working at home to earn an income. Each week, parents are signing job sheets totaling how much money students are earning. Over the span of four weeks, students are receiving paycheques each Friday and have the opportunity to make financial decisions based on "wants" and "needs." This is being done to decide if paycheques should be deposited, or cashed and spent at the School Store. At the end of the fourth week, students will evaluate their budgets and discuss conclusions they make from their saving and spending decisions. So far, students are already learning from their decision making and are stating that they will be making different financial decisions in the future!

The Perfect 10
In place of a test for Social Studies Chapter 7, students created "The Perfect 10." The project consisted of 16 different activities for students to choose from. Each activity held a point value from 1 through 5. Students chose any combination of activities which had a total of 10 points. The various activities demanded a great deal of creativity. Some required research while others required art, music, or poetry skills. The project stated what the activities were, but not how they were to be completed~ imagination and creativity were very important!! The Perfect 10 was due on April 20, and the class created some excellent projects with great imagination. Congratulations for the hard work~ it paid off!!

Biography Day!
This year, Biography Day took place on Friday, April 27.
There were four simple steps to being successful on Biography Day:
1) Students had to choose and read a biography.
2) A one paragraph summary of the biography was written on an index card in the first person.
3) Eight questions were answered about the chosen person the student focused on.
4) A costume was created and worn to school on Biography Day!
