The Student Assistance Program offers assessments regarding a students' social/emotional functioning. These assessments can be useful in determining the origin of some academic or social difficulties that are of concern to the student or the student's family. Parents, teachers, and/or administrators may request an assessment by the Student Assistance Counselor.
After the assessment is completed, the Student Assistance Counselor will make recommendations to the parents and faculty. Based on a thorough assessment, referrals for individual, family, or group counseling may be suggested. Advice is also provided on how to rule out drug and alcohol problems. The Board of Education assumes no responsibility for the cost of mental health or substance abuse treatment. The counselor will determine and recommend, if necessary, the need for ongoing counseling in the school setting.
